December 2009

A special shout out goes to Robin and Linda for scoring some sweet cover art source material on their last visit out east. Production on this doozy was handled by some familiar culprits (Ebro with "digitalis" and Geno on "what better reason") as well as some Music with Friends whippersnappers (adrien75 on both "tic tac toe" and "let it be stated" as well as Manic Depressive with "riding on"). The year was drawing to a close and I saw fit to compile some songs I'd enjoyed and thought folk might appreciate. As Rezin noted, it's been too long since I last released a MWF volume.

digitalis- I'd been discussing the cut throat nature of the internet with Ebro and our discussion lead quite naturally to this song. This song reflects upon how so many people utilize the internet as a place to vent and belittle.

what better reason- Geno is dope. He's sent me odds and ends over the years and I had fun going more sing-songy with the vocals. The lyrics are stuff written when riding between work and home (well, after the ride when I was busy writing what was in my head. Just a dope, laid back song to vibe to.

tic tac toe- adrien75 hit me up to see if I'd give him some feedback on his beats and, well-they were dope. I asked if someday I might be able to use some for a MWF installment and he was all for it. Let's hear it for random encounters of the net kind. I think the only thing I'd change about this song is the "wheee!" at the end. Yeah.

let it be stated- I can't lie, this song was written in the vein of Blackalicious and Darc Mind-some of that fun with syllables, let's see what happens blend. The backdrop was bouncy enough to keep the mood light and song worked itself out.

riding on- On one of my many nights at the Brass Rail, I chanced upon a group of friends who were in the habit of riding their bikes to and from bars. Listening to their banter inspired me to promise I would make a song about their endeavors. Needless to say, they had no recollection of said conversation, but it gave me an opportunity to give a moment in Fort Wayne new life.
